Legal Scholar Jonathan Turley Affirms PFS's Findings on Lack of Faculty Diversity at Princeton

Princetonians for Free Speech's recent study on Princeton faculty political contributions is getting national attention — including from Jonathan Turley, law professor at George Washington University and one of the country's most widely read legal commentators.

In a piece titled "The Purge: Princeton Faculty Reach Perfect Zero Support for Republicans," Turley points to PFS's findings: 98% of faculty political contributions went to Democrats, 0% to Republicans as further evidence of what he calls the "near-complete ideological purging" of faculty ranks at elite universities. He draws a direct comparison to Yale, which he covered earlier this year after faculty there also reached zero recorded Republican donors.

Turley argues that this kind of ideological uniformity comes at a real cost to students,who at most schools have little chance to encounter a professor from the center-right. He also credits Princeton's James Madison Program, founded by Professor Robert George, as a rare counterexample — and notes similar programs it has since inspired elsewhere.

This is exactly the kind of visibility that turns a single study into a national conversation about viewpoint diversity in higher education.
