On October 2, 2025, the morning after nine research universities were asked to consider signing a Trump-administration compact that would have given colleges preferential funding if they agreed to certain policies and practices, the top federal lobbyist at the University of Virginia emailed her counterparts at most of the other institutions on the list.
She asked whether they should hop on a Zoom that afternoon to “walk through next steps on effectively advising our institutional leadership.”
