DOJ Targets William & Mary in Latest Race-Based Admissions Investigation

Excerpt: The Department of Justice is investigating William & Mary for possible race-based discrimination, officials announced Monday. It’s the latest in a series of government investigations regarding the consideration of race in college admissions, scholarships and other institutional programs.

Department officials are probing the public university in Williamsburg, Va., to determine whether it is violating Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by including racial criteria on multiple scholarships and other benefit programs. Under Title VI, colleges and universities receiving federal aid are prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color and national origin.
